when you look at your face today, look at it like you are seeing it for the first time. it might be hard at first, and might seem impossible but try it. think about all the freckles you have, freckles are poetic. you are poetic. write yourself a poem and if you want to call it freckles, go ahead.
look at your black eyes, so what, if they’re not as blue as the ocean that people love to drown in or as green as the big forest they love to get lost in. they’re all just metaphors and overrated now (not that they’re not good, if you have them, yay for you. but not having them isn’t a bad thing either). don’t look at someone else’s eyes and wish for them because the chances are they probably want yours too. while your eyes hold poems you’ll probably never recite, they are also the kind in which i would search dead leaves and ashes of pluto in.
look at your hand like its not yours, touch your wrist. compliment it like you would have if it was a stranger’s. poke that little bone popping from your left hand, play with it like you would play with a new born baby’s tiny fingers. now look at the back of your hand, see how formed your fingers are, how your bones describe each of your insecurity and how your veins show your regrets.
look at your thighs, look at them from your best friend’s eyes. and if you still think they are fat, remember fat is used in cooking, fat is chocolate. fat is edible. fat is pretty. your thighs are fat. they are pretty. not edible, no please don’t eat your thighs. kiss them instead, kiss them like they are family. love them the way you love your favourite aunt.
its okay to love yourself. loving yourself is probably like going to a new place and breathing the fresh air and wondering, why is this the first time i’m coming here. people might try to tell you who you are. do not believe them, they do not decide who you are. you decide who you are. it’ll be hard to, and at first, you might want to give up. but dont, in then end, its only you who will matter.
its okay to love yourself, as long as you don’t lose yourself on the way. self love isn’t a sin, vanity is.
